Over 100 Killed in Paramilitary Forces Attack on Sudanese Village

KHARTOUM, June 6 (Xinhua) — More than 100 people have been killed in an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a village in central Sudan’s Gezira State, according to the local resistance committee.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have yet to respond to the incident. The RSF stated that its fighters targeted a group of Mustanfareen, or “the popular resistance,” who were fighting alongside the Sudanese army in the area. The resistance committee from the state capital Wad Madani reported that the death toll could rise due to the large number of wounded, with many seriously injured.

The attack occurred in Wad Al-Noura village, where the RSF began their raid on Wednesday, employing light and medium weapons after a two-day siege. An eyewitness from the village told Xinhua that the closure of main roads had hindered the transport of the wounded to nearby hospitals.

On Thursday, Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council condemned the RSF, accusing them of committing a “massacre” in Wad Al-Noura. The council claimed the attack was part of a systematic effort to target civilians, loot property, and forcibly displace residents.

Sudan has been engulfed in deadly clashes between the SAF and the RSF since April 15, 2023. These ongoing conflicts have resulted in the deaths of over 15,550 people and displaced more than 8.8 million nationwide, according to recent estimates by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, which did not include Thursday’s attack.
